Twins!

Our first-ever single, ‘Twins,’ comes out tomorrow, May 29!

We’re very excited about this song, and starting to explore the more electronic/ambient direction it represents, although: we’ve actually had this song in the works for almost 9 years . . .

While most of the songs on our 2 records are the fruits of group improvisations, a couple are more like smaller sub-group collaborations and 2 are sequenced electronic pieces. Twins is a combination of those two categories.

Keyboardist Carlos Esparza wrote the main chord progression and created a loose song structure using a simple sine-wave sub-bass and a more complex instrument for the main chords: a Casio SK-1 sample from the mid-’90s of himself humming a note put through a filter and tape delay-type effect.

Cellist Brent Arnold then responded with a gentle melody and expanded chords to play against/with what Carlos had created. In mixing, Brent and Richard Webb worked on adjusting the song structure and adding some of our favored dusty atmospheres.

The ‘B-side’ ‘Twins, Mirrors in the Sea,’ is a remix/reimagining of the track by Richard, including spoken word poetry. Richard includes an initial statement of the main chord progression, followed by a string drone. It’s something like an 8 and a half minute semi-guided meditation :)

We hope you like what we’re playing at, we’ll be releasing more as 2020 continues. Let us know on Facebook or Instagram!
